I advocated for a new high speed Monorail transportation system in 1980 when I was a candidate for the U.S. Senate on the Constitution Party in Wisconsin. High speed and high tech was the total financial, industrial, and agricultural answer to keep the U.S. ahead of the rest of the world. Thousands of jobs would be created to build such, which would result in faster and cheaper national transportation for passengers, U.S. manufactured products, including fruits and veges from the vast agricultural areas of California, Florida, and other States to all sectors of the U.S.. Anyone who understands business, knows that time is MONEY.
Amtrak. Such a vile disgrace!! This is total national failure and reaks of financial suicide, of a long outdated transportation system, and thus, it is a financial junkey that has politically been placed on the backs of the hard working taxpayers, while politicians have gotten their kick-backs in supporting it. Every Democrat in office, no matter what the elected position is, should be either 'recalled' or voted out of office, who can be, in 2010. And all Republicans who vote like a Communist liberal Democrat should also get the boot with them. Get rid of the 'pea-brain' politicans. Period!!

I heard... that a new study offers sobering news for those who want the government to run America's health care system — the government-subsidized Amtrak rail service loses an average of $32 for each passenger it transports.
The study by Subsidyscope, an arm of the Pew Charitable Trusts, found that 41 of Amtrak's 44 routes lost money last year. The biggest loser was the Sunset Limited between New Orleans and Los Angeles, which lost $462 per passenger.
Even the popular Northeast Regional trains, which connect Washington, New York and Boston, lost $5 per passenger last year.
According to the study, Amtrak will receive $2.7 billion in subsidies and stimulus dollars in 2009. When is enough, enough? This is a disgrace and insult to anyone that has any common sense.
